![]() Both King’s novel and John Carpenter’s film adaptation, CHRISTINE, also released in 1983, highlight the evolving roles of women in American society and the difficulty in breaking long standing gender stereotypes.Īrnie is a “dork,” cowed by his overbearing mother Regina (Christine Belford) and picked on by his peers. True to the time-period, this story of female autonomy is framed through the lens of the central male character and as Arnie transitions into manhood, Christine’s powers encourage him to objectify the women in his life and embrace the toxicity of 1950s masculinity. Arnie must battle competing forces telling him what it means to be a man and how he should treat the women in his life. But hidden within this high-octane horror story is a deeper tale of love and friendship in the waning days of adolescence. ![]() Arnie Cunningham (Keith Gordon) is a high school senior who finds and fixes up Christine, a 1958 Plymouth Fury that develops murderous autonomy. ![]() On the surface, Stephen King’s 1983 novel CHRISTINE is about an evil car with the ability to drive itself. ![]()

![]() It has all of the humour (hilarious and gentle), sympathetic compassion, poignant emotion and unpredictability of the book, and is every bit as insightful and charming in how the world is seen in the eyes of Christopher. It opens up the story enough and has enough theatricality while still retaining the book's spirit adeptly. The play does a fantastic job adapting the book to stage, among the best book to play adaptations personally seen. My case is not quite as pronounced as Christopher's, yet could still see some of myself in him in especially feeling like an outsider and being treated differently. Being someone who is autistic myself, and despite having things that come easily to me and have found myself overcoming a lot there is still at least one struggle every day. ![]() ![]() Not just because it is such a well written story but the main character Christopher is one of the most relatable (from my experience that is) in literature. ![]() ![]() ![]() A thrill, suspense, psychological, and twist-full book, that will make you thinking and guessing. In the aftermath of the Great War, vast cemeteries and imposing monuments were built across the former battlefields this commemorative landscape was replicated across Britain, as cities, towns and villages saw the erection of local memorials. However, such assessments obscure the emotive bond with the war’s remembrance that has been formed from the cessation of hostilities to the present day. ![]() ![]() This mode of public connection with the conflict has been criticised by some scholars for its reliance on representations in the media. This chapter uses non-representational theory to examine the way in which the popular memory of the Great War (1914-1918) in contemporary Britain is an emotional engagement formed through a process of ‘witnessing’ the past. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mare Barrow's blood is red-the color of common folk-but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control. I will say that I understand the ending, but, it doesn't mean I liked it. My favorite aspect of the book was getting a glimpse of what Elise was like and finally finding out what really became of her and why Peter was so heartbroken for over a century. Bobby was a stronger character in this book which was also nice. ![]() I'm not going to give anything away except to say I liked how Peter and Alice's relationship evolved as well as how Jack matured in this final book.
